In this 65-hour case study, my focus is a mobile-first responsive design.
The goal is to craft an MVP to Mamatxa brand.
Mamatxa is an all-Peruvian brand based in Spain that offers unique travel souvenirs. They source all their raw materials and production from Peru. What caught my attention about this project is their brand story, in which they aim to showcase Cusco's culture, traditions, and landscapes through their products. At the same time, they provide opportunities for people in Peru to improve their quality of life through employment and for artists worldwide to contribute to a project that supports its three principal pillars: Ecologist, Social Impact, Creativity.
The user's goal is to gain a deeper understanding of the stories behind those who contribute to the tourist experience in Cuzco. They want to purchase products in a more holistic and conscious manner, where their purchase not only supports Cuzco's social work but also allows them to learn about the manufacturing process, materials used, and the history of the artist. This includes learning about the use of ecological products as well.
One of the main challenges that mamatxa faces is creating a souvenir store that is responsive and effectively integrates artists from all over the world in the creation of their products. The unique characteristic of sourcing designs from global artists adds complexity to the store's design, procurement, and delivery processes.
Competitive Analysis.
User Interviews.
Persona guides user-centered decisions for mamatxa's responsive souvenir store. Team considers Sofia's preferences, motivations, and challenges to tailor user experience for her and similar users.
Understanding the main pillars of the mamatxa brand and what we wanted to transmit with each of those pillars, we did a Card sorting exercise with the client to organize and hierarchize the spaces.
After assessing the necessary features for the MVP, I created a sitemap.
This user flow outlines the journey from exploration to purchase, emphasizing transparency, ease of navigation, and an engaging experience that aligns with mamatxa's brand identity. It provides a structured understanding of the user's interactions at each step of the process.
These wireframes serve as a visual representation of the main features of the app and help me communicate effectively the design goal, app structure, and user flows.
Approaching more concrete visual design
Great news! The usability tests were a resounding success, with all users able to easily navigate through the proposed user flow. This indicates that our user design is intuitive and user-friendly.The usability tests yielded positive results. All users were able to navigate the proposed user flow satisfactorily.
After making necessary edits, we refined the app to ensure every pixel was perfect before deploying it. As the design process is iterative, the app will continue to evolve and transform post-deployment. Here are some screenshots of the final product and the prototype link.
